Justine Trethewey, Manipulative Physiotherapist at Macquarie Street Physiotherapy

Justine Trethewey

Manipulative Physiotherapist

"Passionate about posture"

Justine completed her physiotherapy studies at La Trobe University in Melbourne in 1988, later returning to complete a Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy. She worked as a physio at Whistler Mountain in Canada, then St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, before moving into private practice in Sydney.

She has a particular interest in core stability and posture, and is also a vestibular physiotherapist treating dizziness and vertigo, including BPPV. Justine runs 1:1 and group core stability and strength classes at the clinic, and enjoys staying active at the gym and playing squash.

Simon Reid, Principal Physiotherapist at Macquarie Street Physiotherapy

Simon Reid

Principal Physiotherapist

"Running - to be enjoyed, not endured"

Simon graduated from the University of Sydney in 1996 and completed his Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2006. He loves managing sports injuries, treadmill gait analysis, and personalised exercise programs - running core stability, strength and Tai Chi classes as part of that focus.

Simon is especially proud of his work engaging senior residents of the Sydney CBD to maintain fitness and social connection. He specialises in the assessment and management of dizziness, including BPPV/vertigo, and is trained in the Epley manoeuvre.

"Helping patients feel better, move better"

Kate has worked in private practice for over 25 years. She loves treating musculoskeletal and sports injuries, and people with complex spinal, pelvic and hip pain - using evidence-based practice, manual therapy including dry needling, and exercise therapy.

Kate is accredited to teach the GLA:D® program for hip and knee arthritis, and has a strong interest in women's health, including pre- and postnatal care. In her spare time she volunteers with her local soccer club, developing injury prevention programs for junior players.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Below we've answered many common questions. If you have any other questions please give us a call on 02 9221 1604 during business hours or book online.

How do I make an appointment?
To make an appointment you can book online for most types of appointments, or contact our reception on 02 9221 1604. Please note: all work-cover clients need to call us to make a booking.
Is there disabled access?
A lift takes you up from street level (or from parking level) and there is wheelchair access into Macquarie Street Physiotherapy. Assistance animals are welcome.
What are the opening hours?
Practice hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 6:00pm.
Reception hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm.
How long is an appointment (each session)?
Initial appointments are 45 minutes. Subsequent appointments are usually 30 minutes. Subsequent extended (45 min) appointments for complex problems, two treatment areas, or core stability/exercise sessions are also available.
Do I need a referral?
A doctor's referral is not necessary unless you are making a workers compensation claim or third-party claim.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on the type of problem, its severity and duration. Through education and exercises, we aim to help you facilitate recovery even when away from the physio.
Can I be seen immediately?
There's a good chance you can be seen on the day or the day after you call us.
Do you manipulate?
Although we are all manipulative physiotherapists, we do not manipulate the cervical spine (neck) due to potential risks to the vertebral artery. At times, and with patients' consent, we manipulate the thoracic and lumbar spine (mid and lower back).
What happens at the first visit?
Your physiotherapist will discuss your problem and history with you, and complete a physical assessment. They'll explain their impression of your problem, why it started, and what's needed to help correct things. Treatment begins on the first day.
What should I bring?
Bring any relevant x-rays or scans. If you have a doctor's referral, bring that too.
How do I pay?
Payment should be made on the day of service. We accept cash, Mastercard, Visa and AMEX. If your health fund cover includes extras, you can claim this straight away and only pay the gap.
What should I wear?
There's no need to bring specific clothing - we have shorts and gowns for your use. If attending a running assessment, bring running shoes; for a group class, bring comfortable clothing or gym gear (shoes optional).
Can I claim this back through my health fund?
Yes - you can claim a percentage of the fee if your extras cover includes physiotherapy. This can be done on the spot through HICAPS if you bring your membership card. If in doubt, check the exact amount with your fund.
Will it hurt?
If you're in significant pain, we'll treat the area very gently - our intention is for you to leave more comfortable. For old chronic conditions involving stiffness, some pain may be felt due to a firmer approach. Always tell your physio about any pain, and they won't push beyond what you can tolerate.
Can I claim this back through Medicare?
If your GP finds you eligible for the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Program, you may be able to recover some physiotherapy costs. Bring your Medicare card and this can be processed at the time of consultation.
Is it OK if I am not an athlete?
Yes, of course. Many of our patients work or live in the city, and we see a wide variety of conditions, ages and activity levels.
Where can I park?
Parking is available under our building at Park House, at Sydney Hospital, the Domain, and limited street parking is also available. It's worth checking prices individually as they vary.
Alternatives to parking?
The closest train station is Martin Place, about 150m away. We're also a short 9-minute walk from George Street Wynyard Train & Light Rail Station. Many nearby bus stops are available - check Transport NSW for your closest stop. There are public facilities for chaining bicycles along Macquarie Street.
Cancellation policy?
Your booking is for a specific time and we aim to dedicate your consultation to you individually. We request 24 hours' notice of cancellation to offer the time to another patient - otherwise a 50% non-attendance fee will apply.
