Bladder Leakage

Bladder leakage is something that both men and women experience. From just the occasional small amount with a coughing bout, to a large amount that severely affects your confidence, limits your activities and has you planning your trips around toilet stops.

The Continence Foundation of Australia states that urinary leakage, or incontinence, affects 1 in 4 adults with the number being higher for women with 38% experiencing symptoms at some point in their lives.

WHAT FACTORS CONTRIBUTE TO BLADDER LEAKAGE:

  • age
  • hormones
  • pregnancy
  • childbirth history
  • certain medical conditions
  • pelvic floor muscle strength, tone and co-ordination
  • bowel habits
  • breathing strategy and mobility through the upper body, to name just a few!

Identifying factors to bladder weakness:

Identifying what factors are specifically contributing to YOUR incontinence allows a targeted treatment program. Some women who leak need to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles, others grip too often and need to learn to let the muscles go, whilst others need to reduce the abdominal pressures coming down onto the bladder.
