Our small-group Core Stability/Pilates sessions promote core body strength, flexibility, and a calm state of mind - whether as part of your regular exercise, rehabilitation from injury, or for preventative reasons.

What's involved

Classes bring together Pilates-inspired exercises with upper and lower body strength work, stretches, and balance training, with a focus on good spinal alignment. Equipment includes Swiss balls, Pilates balls, resistance bands and foam rollers. One-to-one sessions may also use the Pilates Reformer.

Who it suits

People of all ages and fitness levels - from those managing headaches, spinal or joint pain, to parents who bend and lift frequently, to regular gym-goers wanting to protect their back and neck during resistance training.

Cost & rebates

Group classes may be eligible for a health fund rebate under "Group Physiotherapy" (item code 560). One-to-one sessions are billed as physiotherapy treatment (item code 505).

Functional strength classes focus on maintaining or building the muscle and strength that supports an active lifestyle - important for overall health at any age, and especially valuable for senior fitness.

What's involved

Small classes (capped at 3 people) use our functional trainer machine, TRX total body resistance exercises, bands and weights. Every exercise is tailored to your existing strength and fitness level and progressed as your ability increases.

Getting started

No prior strength training experience is required. Each new participant completes a 30-minute assessment with a physiotherapist first, to check for any pre-existing conditions or injuries that may need addressing before starting.

Particularly beneficial for anyone diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia by their GP or endocrinologist. Strength training can help maintain or even improve bone mineral density, alongside other health benefits.

What's involved

Small classes (up to 4 people) run by physiotherapists, using strength equipment tailored to your bone health needs. Exercises are increased incrementally as your ability improves.

Getting started

Suitable for people with no prior training experience. A 30-minute physiotherapist assessment is required first to check for any conditions that need addressing before you begin. Individual or duet sessions (with a friend) are also available for a more tailored approach.

Cost & rebates

Most health funds provide a rebate for physiotherapy classes under item code 560.

We teach "Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention," developed by Tai Chi master and GP Dr Paul Lam, based on the Sun-style of Tai Chi. It's ideally suited to people whose balance is affected by injury, age, or arthritis - though you don't need to have arthritis to benefit.

Health benefits

  • Reduced symptoms of arthritis
  • Improved balance and reduced risk of falling
  • Relaxation and stress relief
  • Strength, conditioning and immunity building
  • Decreased blood pressure

The evidence

This program has been tested in over 20 published medical trials. One of the largest, a NSW Health-funded study of 701 participants, found a reduction in falls of almost 70%.

Getting started

Suitable for complete beginners as well as those with Tai Chi experience - content is taught step-by-step based on how the class is progressing. Most health funds provide a rebate with physiotherapy extras cover.
